Hey Freetown...it feels good to write to you again.
With the two holy months behind us and Independence weekend coming up, I thought it was a good time to reconnect with you all again as I've been missed, and of course...I've missed you.

I have been away for the better part of March and some of April in my other home - Lagos, Nigeria.
As I settle in to a somewhat new-ish Freetown, I've observed so many changes - and I'm not just talking petrol wahala. It's funny how a month and some change can change things so much, but hey. Ow fo do.
So allow me to be a constant in your life and share 7 things to do comme d'hab (as usual) this month:
1.) Salsa Night 💃🏾

Dance the night away...and maybe also some of that Salone yagba with Salsa!

The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs declared 2026 the Year of Creativity and Culture in Sierra Leone in December 2025. In line with this theme, and in celebration of Mama Salone at 65, the Ministry and its partners are curating the weekend-long event: Gastronomy, Culture and Creativity.
The promising weekend is filled with events and activities: from a live cooking demonstration, food tasting and your favorite hotels showcasing their speciality menus. Basically, na foodie event, en udat nor lek ein bele?

4.) Earth & Energy Yoga 🧘🏾♀️

Breathe in...
Breathe out...
Now breathe in again...

Did you do it? Did you really?
At yoga, you do it often and will hear your instructor say it. Yoga with Bhawna is new to Freetown and she is sharing her practice with Freetownians.
Bhawna has been instructing yoga for over 7 years in Malawi and Nigeria and now Sierra Leone. Her practice is rooted in Hatha and Vinyasa as well as other forms and specialities. She welcomes all abilities and levels, and you can join her class on:

It is a carefully curated wellness and lifestyle store which has quickly been known for its unique Matcha drinks, with their Matcha creations gaining traction across social media. For my fellow Matcha lovers, our time has come. They are open 7 days a week and you can pop in for a drink, snacks and/or home decor items at:
Venue: 109E Wilkinson Road
7.) Reggie's Jazz Exchange 🎷

Did you know that Jazz had its own day?
I sure didn't until a few days ago, and it rightly should. Period. 💅🏾

C'est fini, that's all folks!
Wishing you all a joyful rest of your month and...can't believe I'm saying this, but well, a happy Independence Day in advance.
Mama Salone will be on a whole 65 on Monday, April 27.
Hmmmm...I have some thoughts on that.
But until then...
Be safe, and see you when I see you.
xx,
Mina.
