Hmmm...rainy rainy Freetown.
But it's not as rainy as it could be, in my opinion. Honestly, I find it to be a milder rainy season in recent years.
But a rainy Freetown nonetheless...
I was debating whether to do a Top 7 this month, hence the time of publication. But then I thought to myself...surely there must be some things going on.
And indeed there are...7 things to be exact 😉
Here are 7 things you can still do in Freetown this month:
1.) Karaoke & Ladies' Night 🎤

Karaoke AND Ladies Night? Sounds like 2-for-2 to me!
WanWanWan, one of the city's popular BBQ joints aka ros ros places offers more than just its fair share of grilled meat and Sierra Leonean dishes. On Wednesdays, the space is open to karaoke singers and dedicated to women. To join the fun with DJ Switch 232 and others, you can sing your heart out on:
Date: every Wednesday
Time: starts at 8:00 pm
Venue: WanWanWan, 22 Leceister Peak Road by Sam Sumana Drive, IMATT.
Entrance: Free
Contact +232 75 223 036 for table reservations and inquiries.
2.) Ladies' Night at Scarlet 🪩

Tan lek say, Wednesday na fo wi d uman dem. Babu yai o 👀🤭
On this same blessed Wednesday, as with most, if not all Wednesdays, Scarlet Lounge hosts a Ladies' Night. As always, women get in free, I don't know about the men as that's not my gender...but you can find out more and party with Hypeman Jerry of Lagos, DJ Shaggy, DJ Victor and more on:
Date: Wednesday, August 19 2026 (tonight)
Time: 10:00 pm
Venue: Scarlet Lounge, Mamba Point Lagoonda Complex, 80 Cape Road, Aberdeen
For reservations and inquiries, contact +232 77 997 777 or +232 77 012 345.
3.) Mongolian Night with Country Lodge 🥘

Looking to diversify your palette this rainy season? Then Mongolian Night may be for you.
On this night, Country Lodge offers a unique experience promising bold flavors, chill vibes over a live station of an array of food to choose from. Give it a try or go back for more on:
Date: Friday, August 21 2026

4.) Shopping Saturday at Aurora 🛍️

Are you in need or want of some retail therapy? The Aurora House pop up may be for you.
At the Aurora House by Aurora Foundation, you can expect to see beauitful, handcrafted items all made in Sierra Leone. If you've been looking to add more warmth and artisanal decor to your home or gift someone, you can check it out on:
Date: Saturday, August 22 2026
Time: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Venue: Aurora House, 35 Fraser Street off Wilkinson Road
5.) Kreative Kommunity 🎭

You can stay creatively stimulated this rainy season by attending this month's Kreative Kommunity or by being a performer.
Curated by Inkundla Spaces and Paint Pages, Kreative Kommunity is a space where creatives, artists and enthusiasts can meet, create and participate in open mic, spoken word painting/coloring sessions. Let your inner child out on:
Date: Thursday, August 27 2026
Time: 7:00 - 10:00 pm
Venue: 6 Williams Drive, SS Camp (Ask for Banki Moon's Place)
Fee: Pay As You Can
To sign up: Kreative Kommunity Google Form
6.) Pan-African Women's discussion 🌍

Following Pan-African Women’s Day on July 31 and South Africa’s Women’s Day on August 9, August is recognized as Women’s Month.
This annual observance honors the historic 1956 Women’s March, when 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest the unjust pass laws during Apartheid. In commemoration of this historic legacy, the Pan-African Women Association (PAWA) and Pan African Union Sierra Leone (PANAFU SL) are curating a timely discussion under the theme: “African Women Must Organize to Free the Nation.”
You can join the conversation on:
Date: Friday, August 28 2026
Time: 2:00 pm
Venue: Sierra Leone Library Board, Rokel Street
7.) Stay warm and Stay safe ☂️

Flood season is upon us unfortunately, especially for those in Freetown living in very precarious housing structures and communities.
Do stay safe and warm as best as you can...especially if you are single with no one to cuddle with during the storm.
See you in September!
Ta ta for now,
Mina xx
